About NASJA


NASJA is a longstanding professional organization dedicated to the advancement of snow sports journalism. Founded to support writers, editors, and storytellers covering skiing, snowboarding, and mountain culture, the association has played a central role in shaping the standards and integrity of reporting within the industry.

With a history rooted in tradition and credibility, NASJA brings together experienced journalists and industry professionals committed to accurate, thoughtful, and responsible coverage of winter sports. Its work reflects a deep respect for the craft of journalism and the evolving landscape of outdoor and adventure reporting.

NASJA'S HISTORY 




The organization was founded in 1963 as the United States Ski Writers Association (USSWA). The name was changed to North Amercian Snowsports Journalist Association NASJA in 1990 to better reflect the geographic diversity of the membership and range of members work. Carson White (SF Examiner) was USSWA’s first president. He was also the first president of the Northern California and Nevada Sports Writers Association formed in 1956. In 1994, the Golden Quill Award was renamed in his honor.
